Anthro [UND], MSc Enviro Change and Mgmt [Oxon] Robert joined RESTIO Energy (then called RAPS Consulting) in mid 2001 and was appointed a director in January 2005. He has been involved in the energy sector for more than a decade, starting with his involvement with the ‘Social Determinants of Energy Use’ project (1995-1998), one of the principle South African energy studies that remain influential today. Since joining RESTIO Energy, Robert has been involved in a range of consultancy and implementation assignments, including issues relating to household energy consumption, improved access to modern energy supplies, mini-grid design and feasibility studies, off-grid feasibility studies, rural energy distribution models, the setting up of an off-grid utility (Nuon-RAPS Utility – NuRa) etc. For the past few years Robert has been closely involved with productive uses of energy, having participated in a number of consulting missions and projects looking at ways to promote income-generating opportunities through access to modern energy. These include analyses of productive use opportunities in Tanzania and Zambia using an economic sector approach, assisting with the development of the original Productive Use Container (PUC) exhibited at the WSSD in 2002, providing consulting services for the development of productive use activities in Mozambique and Lesotho, designing and managing the implementation of 6 productive use containers in KwaZulu-Natal and assessing the carbon reduction opportunities for Tanzania's biggest economic sector. Robert is passionate about developing innovative, sustainable businesses that deliver clean energy services to all sectors of society. Prior to joining RESTIO Energy, Robert worked at the University of Natal as a researcher and later senior researcher on a number of energy related studies. He was also an independent consultant and lectured for a brief period at the institution. Robert has published a number of journal and news media articles. This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it Sustainable Energy Consultant MPhil: Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies; BPhil: Sustainable Development Planning & Management Wikus joined Restio Energy towards the end of 2007, having assisted the Center for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) with a performance assessment of hybrid-energy systems in rural South Africa. Wikus was awarded a SANERI bursary for his Masters (Cum Laude), which dealt with appropriate implementation frameworks for South African rural renewable energy (consequently published in the international journal, Renewable Energy). His qualifications in Sustainable Development Planning and Management as well as Economics, Political Science, Decision-making and Policy studies all equip him for a holistic approach to energy challenges. Wikus's experience with Restio Energy includes project design, development and management, field- and desktop research, client liaison, report writing, market development, carbon footprint analysis and business innovation. While doing his Masters in Social Anthropology at Stellenbosch University, Francois joined the Restio Team in May 2008, mainly responsible for carrying out and managing field- and desktop research .Francois has relevant experience in the fields of rural development and has been involved in various social upliftment, resettlement and educational research projects.
